Aligning Images

Mira provides a number of ways to align images. These commands range from simple alignment on a single point source to full registration on multiple points that accounts for image rotation, and simple distortions. Intermediate between these cases is the ability to align on diffuse or extended object such as a "blob" or the image of a planet. All methods work with an Image Set, or stack of images displayed in a single Image Window. All of these commands are capable of aligning an image set to within an RMS error of only a few hundredths of a pixel.

Alignment Commands

Align on Point is a 1-click command to align an image set using a single point source.

Align on Object is a 1-click command to align an image set by drawing a rectangle around the diffuse object.

Register Images is a toolbar operated package that performs high precision registration on multiple reference points. It accounts for image displacement, rotation, image scale, unequal scale in the two axes, and non-perpendicularity of the axes.

Align by WCS aligns images using the mapping stored in their world coordinate system. All images must have a calibrated world coordinate system in order to use this method.
