Image Coordinate Display

The coordinates of the mouse pointer are displayed in the top middle section of the Image Toolbar. As shown below, this information provides a complete point measurement of the image at the location of the mouse pointer.

The measurement is reported in both the native image coordinates of column and row, as well as in World Coordinates if the image is so calibrated. See Image Coordinate System for a full discussion.

Coordinate Display Definitions

X

The X coordinate of the pointer. If the image has a World Coordinate System (WCS) calibration, this is Right Ascension. Otherwise, this is the column coordinate.

Y

The Y coordinate of the pointer. If the image has a World Coordinate System (WCS) calibration, this is Declination. Otherwise, this is the row coordinate.

Z

The Pixel Value at the pointer coordinate. This is a point measurement for the image at (X,Y). If a Luminance Calibration exists, it is reported with its units. Otherwise, the Z value is the raw pixel value and no units are listed.

C

The Column coordinate of the pointer.

R

The Row coordinate of the pointer.

Whenever the mouse pointer passes over an image, the pointer changes to the icon of the current command mode. For example, if Line Profile Move Mode is active, the pointer changes to . If no command mode is active, the Image Window is in Roam Mode and the mouse pointer becomes a crosshair. In Roam Mode, no specific action is attached to the primary mouse button.

Using the Image Cursor with World Coordinates

The Image Cursor does not display world coordinates. But it can be sent to an exact coordinate (pixel or world) using the Go To Coordinate command.
